Overview

  • The EALL department has concentrations and minors in both Chinese and Japanese. Both programs have pre-approved study abroad programs.
  • Students can earn credit towards EALL concentrations and minors while abroad with approval from the Department Chair.
  • Some programs are language and culture focused, while others offer the opportunity to enroll in both language coursework and coursework in English.

Semester-Program Eligibility Requirements

  • Students must pass a course or otherwise show proficiency in the country’s language at the second semester (120) level for Chinese and Japanese.

  • Students must complete the PE, QSR, and writing-intensive requirements by the start of the study abroad program.

  • Students must have a minimum 2.7 Study Abroad GPA.

Summer Programs

Students can also participate in summer study abroad programs. Students are not limited to pre-approved providers in the summer session and will work directly with the Registrar's Office, their study abroad advisor, and the EALL Department to select a summer program that will be approved for transfer credit at 麻豆国产AV College. Many of the pre-approved semester program providers and organizations also offer summer sessions, so that is a great place to start your program research!

Scholarships

Here are some scholarship ideas to get you started. There may be additional opportunities available which are not listed below. Work with the Scholarships/Fellowships Coordinator and your study abroad advisor for more information.

  • Bridging Scholarships for Study in Japan - for students who would like to study in Japan
  • Freeman-Asia Award - specifically for students who would like to study in Asia
  • Japanese Government Scholarship (MEXT) -  a competitive scholarship for students studying in Japan.

  • Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship -  open to Federal Pell Grant recipients in order to increase their participation in study abroad. Mid-January deadline for the following year
  • Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) - provides fully-funded intensive summer language institutes overseas in fifteen critical languages
  • Fulbright Grant Program - offers scholarships for students wishing to study abroad
  • Fund for Education Abroad - provides scholarships and ongoing support to students who are underrepresented among the U.S. study-abroad population
  • Gilman-McCain Scholarship - provides awards of $5,000 for child dependents of active duty service members to study or intern abroad on credit-bearing programs
  • National Security Education Program - Boren Awards for International Study is a U.S. Government program for studying less commonly taught languages in world regions critical to U.S. interests. The program involves a national competition. Deadline typically in February for the following year.
  • Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants - offers grants for students wishing to study abroad
