Advising And Registration Information for Faculty
Schedules are available on Academic Planning and in downloadable Excel file. Please verify that your course information is correct (including prerequisites) and notify the Registrar’s Office of any errors. Remember that you can give individual students permission to override prerequisites and instructors permission right in Academic Planning. The system does not override closed courses or restrictions such as the course only being open to a certain class or major. Those must be done through a course change form (an email can serve as a signature on the form). Registration restrictions, if applicable, are noted for each class section on the schedule under the "Additional Information" area.
Below are some essential points to remember for advising this semester:
- You must clear your advisees in prior to their registration time (go to your Advisees, check the "View Details" button, click the "Advisement Complete" button, and then "Continue" ). Please note that students who are studying abroad have been cleared by the Registrar's Office.
Here are some other things to consider as you prepare to meet with your advisees:
- Student Planning is a great tool for working with advisees. Advisors see the same screens as their advisees, and you will be able to look up the courses a student has included in their plan. You also have the ability to search the entire course catalogue or just the Fall 2024 term by selecting the appropriate filters. Either select Advanced Search or click on the Search for Courses by Keyword box, and click "Search" without entering any text to get the full list of courses and filters.
- You can email your Advisees from Academic Planning. Open your Advisee List (or Class Roster) and click on "Email All My Advisees" (top right corner). Select the "Copy to Clipboard" button in the pop-up and, once the "Copied to Clipboard" notification opens, you can open a new Gmail message and right click to select the "Paste" option. Remember: It is best practice to use the "Bcc" option when emailing a group of students.
- The Registrar’s Office is happy to help if you have any questions, or would like a review of how to use Academic Planning. If you experience any problems, please report them to the Registrar’s Office immediately. For resources and updates on registration, visit the Registrar’s faculty resources page.
