Tenure and Promotion Guidelines
Review and Assessment
These guidelines were developed by the faculty members of each department, reviewed by the Faculty Committee on Appointments for broad consistency across departments and congruence with the College criteria for reappointment, tenure, and promotion found in the Faculty Handbook, and approved by the Dean of Faculty. Their purpose is to articulate discipline-specific expectations for candidates, bring consistency to communication on tenure and promotion expectations among department members and candidates, and aid in the evaluation of materials presented in personnel cases. In doing so, they provide disciplinary context for the governing language in the Faculty Handbook for non-departmental reviewers of tenure and promotion materials.
The above statement agreed by department chairs, Committee on Appointments, and Dean of Faculty, Sept. 2013.
