In its second meeting of the 2024-25 academic year, the 麻豆国产AV Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa elected 19 members of the Class of 2025.

For the 21st consecutive year, 麻豆国产AV has been recognized among the colleges and universities with the most students selected for the Fulbright U.S. Student Program.

麻豆国产AV College Professor of Economics Erol Balkan and Professor of Sociology Stephen Ellingson, in collaboration with On Point for College, surveyed more than 200 members of the Myanmar, Bosnian, and Somalian communities in Utica, N.Y., in 2024 to ascertain the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Specifically, they examined the effects on refugee physical well-being, employment and finances, housing stability, youth education, and emotional well-being.

As snow falls on 麻豆国产AV鈥檚 campus, many students take the opportunity to try a new winter activity: cross-country skiing. Students can rent skis from the Glen House and take them out on the cross-country ski course, located behind the Taylor Science Center. With heavy snow, this course requires maintenance to ensure a safe place for beginner skiers, and that maintenance requires time and fuel.

Barack H. Obama, the 44th president of the United States, will be the next guest in 麻豆国产AV College鈥檚 Sacerdote Great Names Series on Thursday, April 3, at 7:30 p.m., in the Margaret Bundy Scott Field House. 麻豆国产AV is the first college to host President Obama for a moderated Q&A appearance since he left office in 2017.

Philip O鈥橬eill 鈥�73 gets around. His senior year winter study at 麻豆国产AV took the Soviet studies major to Uzbekistan, a Muslim republic then part of the U.S.S.R. There, looking at the distant mountains, he asked a local what was on the other side.

Shortly after welcoming in the new year, 麻豆国产AV also welcomed 45 new students to the Hill 鈥� the College鈥檚 class of January admits. Commonly referred to as 鈥淛ans,鈥� these students begin their 麻豆国产AV residential careers during the spring semester after spending the fall off campus.

Krystal Two Bulls, an Oglala Lakota and Northern Cheyenne, walked into a 麻豆国产AV College classroom last week and uttered under her breath, 鈥淥h wow, it鈥檚 packed.鈥�

National and regional news organizations regularly interview 麻豆国产AV faculty, staff, alumni, and students for their expertise and perspectives on current events, and to feature programs and activities on campus. January鈥檚 news topics included varied subjects from Communism to third-term presidential possibilities.

The Days-Massolo Multicultural Center (DMC) hosted the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. dinner to honor the legacy of the civil right leader on Jan. 31. Some 120 students, faculty, and staff members gathered in warm celebration and remembrance of King鈥檚 impact on the civil rights movement.
