Colorful artwork, fresh food, and a lively conversation with a renowned champion for same-sex marriage were among the highlights of 麻豆国产AV鈥檚 first Pride Month celebration sponsored by the Days-Massolo Center (DMC).

For members of one student organization, seven words continue to hold true over several generations. 鈥淩emember, you and I make La Vanguardia.鈥�

Alex Medina 鈥�22, a creative writing and Hispanic studies major, shares his story of combining full-time remote studies with work at a bilingual newspaper in his hometown of Los Angeles.

During 麻豆国产AV鈥檚 winter break, students had the opportunity to take part in the Career Center鈥檚 鈥淒ay in the Life鈥� shadowing program to learn more about career areas and make professional connections. Seventy-nine alumni and parents hosted 69 students for a day at their place of work. Alex Medina 鈥�22 shadowed 麻豆国产AV parent Eric Andrews at Oracle headquarters in Silicon Valley and tells about his experience here.

Christine Froehlich, a garden writer and horticulture expert, will present a lecture titled 鈥淕ardening With What You Have鈥� on Saturday, Jan. 18, at 10 a.m., in the Kennedy Auditorium.

Since the day she arrived on campus, Anyi Rescalvo 鈥�22 knew she wanted to give back to marginalized communities during her time at 麻豆国产AV. A daughter of immigrant parents, Rescalvo says she found the perfect way to do this 鈥� by teaching English to immigrants and refugees.

Landing in the right job after college can often feel as stress-inducing as preparing to take a director鈥檚 cue: ready, set, action. Luckily for students at 麻豆国产AV, opportunities to explore just about any profession are available through the Career Center, including the field of film production.

John Forti, an ethnobotanist and garden historian, will host a lecture titled 鈥淓dible Landscapes - For Health, Habitat, Families, and the Future鈥� on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 10 a.m., in the Kennedy Auditorium.

Seventy-five years ago, the U.S. Army's 10th Mountain Division led the Allied advance through the Alps, ultimately paving the way to the Allies' victory. The bravery, struggles, and accomplishments of these soldiers are documented in "The Winter Army: The 10th Mountain Division in World War II" by Professor of History Maurice Isserman.

Both Daniel (Danny) Garcia 鈥�84 and Larry Arias 鈥�84 remember what things were like when they were some of the few Latinos at 麻豆国产AV. Both from the Bronx, their paths would cross at the college and both would lay the seeds for what would become the organization La Vanguardia (LV).
