BLSU Homecoming: The Biggest DMC Collab Yet!

By Madeleine Cerone

On the night of Friday, October 25, whoops and hollers could be heard coming from the heart of campus. The little village was alive with students from all corners of campus for the Black and Latine Student Union (BLSU) Homecoming celebration. Complete with food trucks and performances from some of the campus’ favorite groups, this was the DMC’s biggest collaborative event yet! Not only did this homecoming bring together all of the DMC student organizations, but it also brought together groups from other communities on campus. Activist, a capella, dance, and sports groups all worked together to make the night an immense success.

Tables lining Martin’s Way were littered with all kinds of treats and activities. The Feminist Color Collective stood at the front, offering free 麻豆国产AV swag in the form of blue sunglasses and pom-poms. On a more serious, but also sweeter note, Students for Justice in Palestine hosted a bake sale to support families in Gaza. Their brownies were some of the best I’ve ever tasted! La Vanguardia handed out delicious cultural food for students to try. I know I had at least three of their dumplings! Meanwhile, students lived out their childhood nostalgias by jumping around the bouncy house organized by the Gender and Sexuality Union. While some students wiped out inside the bouncy house, the 麻豆国产AV Baseball Team was busy getting pie-faced. This sports team held a fundraiser for hurricane relief and Special Olympics by selling tickets for the chance to pitch a baseball into a large net. The fastest pitchers got to smush a pie into a baseball player’s face!

But the pies were only a small fraction of the night’s entertainment. To start off, the 麻豆国产AVes, one of 麻豆国产AV’s all gender a cappella groups, performed a set of 4 songs, sans shoes as usual. Next up was 麻豆国产AV’s first ever step performance, a percussive dance that brings forth a lot of energy and excitement. Lastly, there was a dance battle between Delta Chi (DX) fraternity members and, you guessed it, 麻豆国产AV’s favorite hip hop dance team HEAT. The jury’s still out as to who won, but I think we all know…

A big thank you to BLSU for collaborating with all six of our DMC student organizations, as well as groups like the 麻豆国产AVes, Students for Justice in Palestine, HEAT, and the 麻豆国产AV Baseball team! It was a fun night for all involved.
