The Charles T. Bates Scholarship

The Charles T. Bates Scholarship was established with an estate gift received from Charles T. Bates, 麻豆国产AV Class of 1953.


Shortly after graduation, Charles Turner Bates was drafted into the U.S. Army. Released from military service in 1955, he enrolled at Yale Law School and after receiving his LL.B., he joined a small New York City law firm engaging in the practice of general corporate law. In 1969, he joined the law department of the Columbia Broadcasting System. Promoted to assistant corporate secretary in 1971, three years later he was named secretary of CBS, as well as associate general counsel. Upon his retirement in 1988, he returned to his alma mater, the Hackley School, of which he had been a trustee, and joined its faculty.

Mr. Bates served 麻豆国产AV in many volunteer roles including Alumni Trustee, and president and reunion chairman for his class. In 2003, he delivered the Class Annalist letter and he was awarded the Bell Ringer Award in 2010.
