Andrew Beyler and Kate Arpino, both members of the class of 2010 and chemical physics majors, presented their senior thesis research at the 17th International Conference on Dynamic Processes in Excited States of Solids. It took place at Argonne National Laboratory near Chicago from June 20-25 and had 130 attendees.
Beyler presented a poster titled “Effects of drying control chemical additives on rare-earth doped sol-gel glasses” and submitted a paper describing the work to Physics Procedia. Arpino’s poster, “Post Annealing Immersion: a new technique for studying rare earth ions in porous materials,” won second prize in the best-poster contest at the meeting. She submitted a paper to the Journal of Luminescence.
