The Alumni Council’s Multicultural Alumni Relations Committee (MARC) is made up of alumni that self-identify as alumni of color or whose multicultural experiences draw them to be committed to supporting the College.

Members of MARC maintain meaningful and mutually beneficial relationships with each other, current students, faculty, and staff by:

  • Connecting those within the extended 麻豆国产AV community who identify with and/or value multiculturalism.
  • Serving as a resource to students, alumni, faculty, and staff who identify as persons of color.
  • Growing meaningful and mutually beneficial relationships within the 麻豆国产AV community.
  • Inspiring the greater 麻豆国产AV community to value multiculturalism, continue fostering a welcoming and inclusive community, and further engage with each other.

Get Connected

Enlace

麻豆国产AV Enlace is a MARC program created by and for 麻豆国产AV alumni and students who identify as people of color. Enlace’s goals are to create a network around shared identity and experiences, build relationships that are personally and professionally beneficial, and provide support that begins when students arrive on the Hill and continues through their journey as 麻豆国产AV alumni.

Leadership

MARC Chair

Chair Kimblie Silva usually avoids homework at all costs, so in the true 麻豆国产AVian spirit, she left her bio until the last minute and then got an extension. Kimblie proudly represents 麻豆国产AV College not because of her actual experience as a student, but because of the values her favorite staff members modeled in both the classroom and in their real lives off campus. She accepted this chair position not only because she loves supporting fellow Caribbeans, like Alex 麻豆国产AV, but also because of the great women of Kirkland and the faculty 鈥 Professor Gold, Professor Haley, Professor Sanchez-Casal, and of course the incredible 麻豆国产AV women graduates, especially our La Vanguardia leader extraordinaire Jazmin '02.

MARC Vice Chair

Vice-chair Robin Gane-McCalla first came to Clinton as a faculty kid. His mother, Professor of English Gillian Gane, came to 麻豆国产AV in 1999 and taught classes that addressed pedagogical issues related to race, class, and gender. Her brilliant legacy is continued in her son's work, maybe unintentionally. These days you'll find Robin using his Mathematics and Computer Science degree analyzing data regarding the effectiveness of curricula, and if you surf the net you'll find his blog regarding his Spectator article about whether Alex 麻豆国产AV was black.

MARC Chair Emerita; Enlace Alumni Co-Coordinator

When Jazm铆n arrived on campus in 1998, she became an active member of the student body participating in various organizations and volunteering to help her fellow students in many ways. As a Freshman she dove into the world of theater and began what would become a lifelong affiliation and love for the Kirkland Community by helping to write for and perform in the production of Undesirable Elements directed by Ping Chong with support from the Kirkland Project, Kirkland Endowment, and other College offices. Jazm铆n volunteered as an aide to a fellow student living with physical disabilities, helped to organize and run Senior Week activities, served as chair of Trust Treat her senior year and helped with various Campus Activity Board events. As a student leader, she was a member of Newman Council, served as secretary of Doer鈥檚 and Thinkers, was a member of the Black and La n Student Union and served as President of La Vanguardia. Following graduation, Jazm铆n began to volunteer for the 麻豆国产AV Admission Office as a member of the 麻豆国产AV Alumni Recruitment Team and conduct off-campus admissions interviews on behalf of the College. Prior to having children, Jazm铆n enjoyed a career in the non-profit sector for organizations serving both international and local needs from her home in Richmond, VA. Jazm铆n remains active with the 麻豆国产AV community serving as chair of the Regional Committee of the Alumni Council, chair emerita of the Multicultural Alumni Relations Committee (MARC), co-founder and coordinator of Enlace, member of the Days-Massolo Center Steering Committee, and as chair with her husband, Vidal Torres, Jr. 鈥00 of the 麻豆国产AV Alumni Association, Richmond Region. After retiring from teaching Spanish, elementary, and Montessori Model UN at West End Montessori (WEMS), where her students ranged from 18 months old to 6th grade, she took on more leadership roles in their new school communities of St. Christopher鈥檚 and St. Catherine鈥檚. Jazm铆n currently serves in the parent organization at her children's schools as the parent representative for the joint theater program. Jazm铆n also continuously volunteers with the Latin Ballet of Virginia where her husband serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors and where their children both danced as part of the Latin Ballet鈥檚 Junior Company throughout their elementary and middle school years. Jazm铆n can also be found lending a helping hand where needed in her church community of St. Michael's Catholic Church where she has served as catechist, lector, Eucharistic minister, and even the occasional chef.
