George T. Jones
Elias W. Leavenworth Professor of Anthropology Emeritus (retired)
Tom Jones earned his bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Washington before joining the faculty in 1985. His research focuses on hunter-gatherer adaptation to desert environments, and he conducts archaeological studies in the intermountain region of the Western United States. From 1986 to 2007, he and his wife, Professor of Anthropology Emerita Charlotte Beck, co-directed an archaeological field school and published the monograph The Archaeology of the Eastern Nevada Paleoarchaic. A recipient of the Samuel & Helen Lang Prize for Excellence in Teaching, Professor Jones has co-authored book chapters and articles in such journals as American Antiquity, Journal of Archaeological Science and Journal of Anthropological Archaeology.
