Peter Millet
Litchfield Professor of Physics Emeritus (retired)
After earning a bachelor’s degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a master’s degree and doctorate from Syracuse University, Peter Millet joined the faculty in 1968 and has guided undergraduate studies in experimental physics on such varied topics as the interaction between acoustic fields and air jets, and the approach to chaos in a simple mechanical oscillator. Professor Millet has supervised computational studies of three-body celestial mechanics and, in the context of complexity theory, the use of cellular automata to model traffic flow. Students have worked with him on small-observatory activities such as charge-coupled device (CCD) imaging and manipulating images using image reduction and analysis facility (IRAF) software. His published works can be found in the American Journal of Physics and Physical Review.
