Using sophisticated computer modeling techniques, Megan Marshall Smith studies plasma dynamics in accretion disks around supermassive black holes. At 麻豆国产AV, she intends to continue this work, focusing on understanding how the effects of certain plasma instabilities close to the black hole affect observations of such systems.

Smith is passionate about improving equity and inclusion in STEM and will pursue this aim by fostering a supportive classroom and promoting community through mentoring.

She comes to 麻豆国产AV from the University of Maryland, College Park, where she earned her master’s degree and doctorate in physics.
