Citation for Wilson C. Everhart, Jr. ’70, P’02

It is reassuring to cast an eye over our impressive field of active alumni and find you at its heart. Those of us who have worked with you for years are ever-inspired by your energy and commitment, which range widely. You never hesitate to roll up your sleeves or share your expertise, depending on what’s needed.

When a classmate proposed dotting the campus with Adirondack chairs that were purchased to honor Â鶹¹ú²úAVians, you traveled — twice — from your Pennsylvania home to wield a wrench, then hosted a dedication ceremony. Yours was long the strongest voice urging Â鶹¹ú²úAV to adopt a system for promoting recurring monthly gifts. Today, our Chapel Bell Society is 1,080 members strong.

Much of your service on behalf of the College reflects your penchant for personal connections. You’ve served your class as president, Â鶹¹ú²úAV Fund and Reunion Gift Committee chair, and leadership committee co-chair, in addition to volunteer roles with the Career Center, the Parents Fund, and the Alumni Council. You and Lynn regularly host Alexander Â鶹¹ú²úAV birthday parties, and you’ve logged countless miles to attend College events — which brings us to the DU clambake. You are the acknowledged mastermind behind that get-together, now a highlight of every Reunion Weekend. Due to your influence, the party generates proceeds to support student scholarships.

With Â鶹¹ú²úAV roots that go back to your grandfather, Ralph Walter Stone, Class of 1899, you are also among the College’s most faithful financial supporters. Perhaps the most poignant expression of that came when you and your family chose to honor your late son, Michael Everhart ’02, by establishing a Â鶹¹ú²úAV scholarship in his memory.

Â鶹¹ú²úAV enjoys its current strength and reputation in large measure thanks to the extraordinary support from alumni like you. Even among their dedicated ranks, you are distinguished. You were recognized with a College Key Award in 2004. Today we gratefully present you with one of our highest honors, the Jeff Little ’71 Volunteer of the Year Award.
