Meet the Tutors

Chris Bannigan 鈥26

Gabrielle Brihn 鈥26

Off-campus. Gabrielle is a junior from Cleveland, Ohio majoring in Philosophy and minoring in Math and Creative Writing. She is also part of the Nordic Ski Team, Book XI, Red Weather, the Spectator, and HOC. Outside of writing, she enjoys hiking, playing guitar, and crocheting. She juggled in her middle and high school talent shows and will juggle for you at any opportunity.

Fiona Bristol 鈥25

Fiona is a senior from South Orange, New Jersey majoring in History. Outside of the Writing Center, you can find her working behind the greeter desk at the Wellin, getting her third coffee of the day, or spending too much time browsing a good bookstore. If you have any podcast recommendations, send them her way.

Kate Broeksmit 鈥26

Off-campus. Kate is a junior from Chevy Chase, Maryland. She is majoring in History and Art History. When she鈥檚 not tutoring at the Writing Center, you can find her on a walk in the Glen, redecorating her room (it just never seems to be done), or on the water with the Rowing team. Off campus she loves skiing, hiking, visiting museums, and frequenting farmers markets.

Rachel Budd 鈥25

Rachel is a senior from Bow, New Hampshire who is majoring in Literature. When not in the Writing Center, she works as an Adirondack Adventure Orientation Leader, a Digital Media Tutor, and a Senior Admissions Fellow. Rachel loves working as the head Poetry Board editor for Red Weather, talking about her cat Lacey, and playing Spikeball on Minor field with her friends.

Norma Callejas 鈥26

Off-campus. Norma is a junior from Houston, Texas鈥攜eehaw partner鈥攚ho is concentrating in ethnomusicology through an interdisciplinary music, Japanese, and Hispanic Studies major. Besides residing in the Writing Center, you can find this friendly gremlin at home in the new and renewed mail center, or the dark corners of the library (shelving books or scanning them hehe). If you still can鈥檛 find her, it鈥檚 okay鈥搉o one ever can because she鈥檚 always on the run, most likely in choir, playing her flute or the piano in the practice rooms of Schambach, or writing poetry and reading books in her dorm. She also dances in Tropical Sol, 麻豆国产AV鈥檚 only Latin dance group, does salsa and bachata, and is one of the co Editors-In-Chief of Culture Magazine.

Senna Camp 鈥26

Off-campus. Senna is a junior from Northborough, Massachusetts majoring in Environmental Studies and minoring in French. When she鈥檚 not in the Writing Center, she loves to read Octavia Butler, hang out with her dog, and run around campus collecting donations for 麻豆国产AV鈥檚 Closet. She loves fall because it means she gets to eat 麻豆国产AV-provided Cider Mill donuts every day.

Mia Chervenkova 鈥25

Mia is a senior from Bulgaria (yes, like the split squats) majoring in Computer Science and World Politics. Outside the Writing Center, she is a Digital Human Rights Lab Teaching Assistant, a devoted cat lover, and an egg hater. You can usually find her hiking up and down the hill, speed-walking between KJ and the Science Center, stair-climbing to get to the third floor of the Science Center, zooming through the CJ hallways, and strolling the Glen. When she is sore from walking, she enjoys reading WebToons, watching musicals, drawing, singing, and playing the guitar in the company of her friends.

Maddie Cloutier 鈥27

Maddie is a sophomore from Chicago, Illinois who is intending to major in Classics with a Religious Studies minor. Outside of the Writing Center, you can find them on Minor field practicing with the rugby team, working on The Wattage (as the editor), or DJing for their radio show, Via Chicago (10-11pm every Tuesday). In her free time, Maddie loves reading fantasy novels, listening to music, or going on walks in the glen.

Bayley Dickinson 鈥25

Bayley is a junior from Los Angeles, California majoring in Sociology and minoring in Art. When not in the Writing Center, she is making fried rice at the cooking station in Commons, working on her oil paintings in KTSA, or taking a nap. She is a dedicated KU basketball fan and obsessive Spotify playlist maker.

Deanna Durben 鈥25

Deanna is a senior double majoring in Psychology and Sociology; she wants to do autism research in the future and go to grad school. She鈥檚 from Taiwan and desperately misses her four cats, Pumpkin, Bentley, Meower, and Callie. When not swamped with coursework, she loves books, jigsaw puzzles, and felting (with Netflix on in the background).

Samantha Flaherty 鈥27

Sami is a sophomore from Wilmington, Delaware, intending to major in Philosophy and minor in Linguistics. Even when not scheduled, she is often near the Writing Center in various KJ study spots or at the Keurig machine. On campus, she competes on the Mock Trial team, performs with the Dance Department and student dance clubs, and edits for Suture. Her other hobbies include: waking up before her alarm, walking to Utica Coffee, and calling her sister on Martin鈥檚 Way.

Emily Forslof 鈥26

Off-campus. Emily is a junior born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada (pronounced Nuh-vahh-duh) who currently resides somewhere north of the middle of nowhere in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. She is a Creative Writing major with a minor in taking advantage of the open curriculum. When she isn't geeking out about a book or over her classes, you can find her fueling her coffee addiction, giggling incessantly, cooking and being a foodie, listening to jazz, broadcasting music for WHCL, knitting another scarf, walking in the glen, or rewatching and fully quoting movies and TV shows. You'll wish you never said something to remind her of a line in a movie or a lyric in a song.

Isaiah Franco 鈥27

Isaiah is a sophomore from Vancouver, Washington. Most of the time, you can find him off campus in Utica working with COOP and HAVOC, or near the Opportunity Program offices in downstairs McEwen. He enjoys reading novels, listening to new hip hop albums, and being disappointed in the Arizona Cardinals every year.

JJ Hall 鈥27

JJ is a sophomore from South Florida who will (probably) major in Creative Writing and minor in Hispanic Studies. A wild JJ can be identified by his durag, which is matching his hoodie, which is matching his Crocs. As JJ says, 鈥淚f you鈥檙e not Croc鈥檔, you're not Rock鈥檔!鈥 His favorite music genre is Christian Hip Hop and he can often be found listening to Lecrae on repeat. He鈥檚 an avid Miami Heat fan, fledgling tea addict (the beverage!), poet (and he knows it *snap snap*), and professional amateur ukulele-ist. JJ can be found in many diverse environments including but not limited to: Sadove Sunporch with 麻豆国产AV Christian Fellowship, Darkside hanging out with his advisees as a CA, and the Writing Center (obviously). If you ever spot him in real life, don鈥檛 be afraid to greet him! He responds to English and Spanish. :))

Ivy Hammer-Gumbrell 鈥26

Off-campus. Ivy is a junior from Kennebunkport, Maine. She is a double major in Environmental Studies and Hispanic Studies. On campus, she is also a Community Advisor. In her free time, she loves to play the violin, go for runs in the glen, and paint watercolors. She also enjoys R&B music, The Office, hikes, and good espresso.

Morgan Hodorowski 鈥26

Off-campus. Morgan is a junior from Hillsborough, New Jersey concentrating in Literature with Chinese and Philosophy minors (hopefully!). Outside of the Writing Center, she is a student manager for Sadove, an editor for Red Weather and The Continental, and an FYC Mentor. You can usually find her reading, talking about books she's reading, and trying to find a place to read.

Nick Hollander 鈥26

Off-campus. Nick is a junior from Marietta, Georgia and this is his second year as a Writing Center tutor. He studies philosophy and government and has no intention of going to law school. Outside of the Writing Center, you can find him on Bridgeman Field playing frisbee or in the WHCL studio co-hosting his radio show. Here are some things Nick takes suspiciously seriously: coffee, Aaron Sorkin, art addressing the themes of war, typing, and audio equipment.

Alex Kropaneva 鈥25

Alex is a senior from Brooklyn, New York concentrating in Creative Writing with a minor in Religious Studies. She has an intense fascination with Hogwarts-themed Pomodoro sessions and refuses to do any work without one playing in the background. When not in the Writing Center, you can find her leading roundtable book discussions at Know Thy Shelf, exploring the Adirondack mountains with HOC, or working on her novel.

Claire Lazar 鈥26

Off-campus. Claire is a junior from New York City who is double majoring in Psychology and Art History. (How do those two things relate? She hopes to find out!) When she鈥檚 not in the Writing Center, Claire can usually be found haunting the Commons coffee station, listening to the latest episode of This American Life, or searching the Glen for new hidden curiosities.

Lucy Meola 鈥26

Lucy is a sophomore from Queens who is double majoring in Environmental Studies and Anthropology. She enjoys crosswords, reading late into the night, and anything involving chocolate. Outside of the Writing Center, you might find her doing puzzles in the library or wandering the Rogers Glen.

Elise Mizerak 鈥25

Elise is a senior from Holden, Massachusetts concentrating in Environmental Studies and minoring in Government. In her free time, you can find Elise performing with the Dance Team at football and basketball games. Some of her favorite things include Glen walks, Dunkin iced coffee, Wes Anderson鈥檚 filmography, and Taylor Swift music.

Nicole Moncada 鈥26

Nicole is a junior from Rahway, New Jersey, majoring in Psychology and minoring in Sociology. Watching video essays and dishing out obscure animal trivia to her friends are some of her favorite pastimes. Outside of the Writing Center, you can find her holed up in her dorm playing Dungeons & Dragons or GeoGuessr with a cup of oolong in hand. Jakob Narrow 鈥27

Jakob is a sophomore from northeastern Pennsylvania 鈥 near Scranton, for any fans of Writing Center alumnus Paul Lieberstein's 'The Office.' Jakob plans to declare a concentration in Chemistry. When not in the Writing Center, Jakob is likely spending an afternoon in the chemistry lounge, going for walks in the Glen, or procrastinating in the KJ Atrium. In his free time, Jakob enjoys watching reality television, picnicking, and getting his money's worth from his New York Times Games' subscription.

TJ O鈥橬eil 鈥27

TJ is a sophomore from the Bay Area, California planning to major in Economics with minors in Statistics and Geoscience. Outside of the Writing Center, he can be found playing club soccer or tennis, fishing, or hanging out with friends. He enjoys country music, sports, and trying new food.

Zoe Regner 鈥26

Off-campus. Zoe Regner is a junior from Summit, New Jersey majoring in Creative Writing with minors in Hispanic Studies and Cinema & Media Studies. You can find her playing video games in Sadove, doodling dogs, and eating an excess of chocolate.

Mili Reynoso 鈥26

Off-campus. Mili is a junior from South Texas double majoring in Sociology and Japanese. This small elf can be found in the following places: her dorm (rarely), KJ studying, sunbathing, Diner with her Black Russian with added avocado, and focusing on work with her pink headphones. Besides studying, you can find her watching anime with the Anime Club or talking to strangers as if she鈥檚 never learned stranger danger. If you鈥檙e really lucky, she may be out and about taking a break from staring at her laptop for hours. Dedication is not for the weak!

Emma Ruccio 鈥26

Elizabeth Rudge 鈥27

Elizabeth is a sophomore from Katonah, New York planning to major in Government and minor in Middle Eastern Studies. When not in the Writing Center, you can find Elizabeth making new Spotify playlists, knitting while watching bad TV, or on Steuben Field with the Women's Lacrosse team. She loves backpacking, re-reading Jon Krakauer books, and finding empty classrooms in List.

Fletcher Shaw 鈥26

Fletcher is a junior from Washington, D.C. who is double majoring in Philosophy and Economics. Outside of the Writing Center, you'll likely find him swimming, doing logic puzzles with his friends, or over-optimistically discussing D.C. sports (this is our year).

Alejandro Sosa Hern谩ndez 鈥26

Off-campus. Alejandro is a junior who was raised in Northeast Wisconsin. He is of Yucatec descent. He enjoys writing, acting, Lady Gaga's entire discography, watching the Eurovision Song Contest, and wearing as much purple as he can. The next time you see him, ask him how writing his novel has been going and watch him cringe and flinch away.

Mika Tortusa 鈥25

Mika is a senior from NYC, majoring in History and minoring in Asian Studies and Jurisprudence, Law & Justice Studies. On campus, she鈥檚 also the intern for Pre-Health Advising and the co-head of the 麻豆国产AV Historical. In her free time, she鈥檚 listening to 2000鈥檚 rock, consuming vampire media, and subsisting on iced Americanos. Some words to describe her are 鈥減layful, perceptive, peripheral, paraphernalia.鈥

Maximilian (Max) Wohlfeld 鈥25

Max is a senior from Weston, Massachusetts, although he will tell you he's "from Boston." He is a History major and an Economics minor, with an additional interest in music and 19th-century German philosophy. A heritage speaker, he is happy to help any German students seeking help with their writing. In his free time, Max enjoys cooking, physical activity, competitive Total War: Warhammer III, and recreating the vibe of a European nightclub in his room.

Harry Wu 鈥27

Harry is a sophomore from Fremont, California planning to major in Psychology with a minor in Government. He enjoys creative writing and is currently polishing a 330-page historical screenplay and writing a murder mystery novel. Outside the Writing Center, he can be found strolling around campus, practicing the marimba and timpani in Schambach Center, and watching movies with friends in random classrooms.

Yuxuan Xu 鈥26

Yuxuan is a junior majoring in Neuroscience. On campus, he plays for the men's club soccer team and is a member of the ROOTS Society for Students of Color in STEM. Some of his favorite things are scrabble, intramural sports, cinnamon toast crunch, and a good novel.

Anna Yankee 鈥25

Anna is a senior from Freeport, Maine majoring in Environmental Studies and minoring in Government. On campus, she also tutors French and Italian at the Language Center, runs Harvest, and co-leads the Sustainability Coordinators. Anna鈥檚 favorite things are falafel, farmers鈥 markets, and colorful pens. She lives off of spa water and especially loves helping with personal statements.
